Main Task

What we need to do.

This our first attempt at doing a short film. last year we had to do a radio broadcast and this is a completely new challenge for me and my group.  Our task is to create a short film that lasts at least five minutes. Not only a short film, we also have to create a a poster for the short film and a radio advert as marketing for the film. The reason we need to create a poster is because its the first indication of what the will be about. The radio broadcast gives the audience an inside of what the film and how the film will plan out also giving the audience a sound of the film itself.  Creating a film also means that we need a mood board to help the team come up with an idea of what the could be about.

Making of the logo.

This is our first attempt in making our logo and we went with the name KARJ which stands for the first letter of everyone's name in our group. we have a type of film role going on the side because our group is based on doing a short film for our A2. As this was our first draft on making the logo, not everyone in our group agreed that it should be our final logo. We didn't agree with the design of the first logo so we wanted to create another logo that would suit our film. The logo is a really important part for our short film  production because this is the first thing that people will see about our media production. our logo as well as our poster has to sell the short film. 

This is our second attempt on making a group logo and this is what our group came up with. We stuck with the same name for our second logo and went with a different approach to the image. We decided that this was a better logo. As a group we agreed that this would be the groups logo because we like the way that the logo submerges with the production name. On our new logo we have bright colours to grab the audiences attention and make it easier for them to remember the logo. Having the logo bright and vivid makes the logo rememberable and thats what we want because if we make a successful movie it makes it easier to advertise future films.  

The Job Interview

The story plot: the story plot is about two character who meet each other just before they go for there interview. Both these character are aware that they are both going to a job interview but what they are not aware of is that they are both going to the same interview which only has one job spot  left. This plot is a really plot to convert because of how simple the story is. With a simple plot it allows us as a group to become more creative with the execution of the film and giving it an original twist with the types of shots that could be implemented.

CANON EOS 60D (FILMMAKING)

This is the camera we will be using to film our short film. 

LIGHT

We will use the lights because it some locations we have found, the lighting may not be as good as we imagine. 

SAMSON MIC

We are going to have to use the mic to record our radio advert. 

Scene Locations

This is where the first scene took place. We decided to shoot the first scene here because this is a place where people can socialise for example by the sink. This was an easy place to get access to which made filming the scene a lot easier for actors and directors alike. 

We liked using this corridor because it allows us to become creative with the types of shots we could use and make it different form other scenes because of the creativity allowed. For example we used a follow shot to shoot this scene and its the only scene we used the follow shot in, making it completely different from other scenes.   

We needed a place or a way to separate both protagonists so that we could implement the element of surprise to our audience. One of our protagonist goes one way and the other goes another way separating the two. i think this was a really clever way of splitting the two because in the next shot one of the characters is going down the stair but the other is going straight to the interview room. This shows glimpses of the characters personality as one is late (going a different long way to the interview room) whilst the other goes straight to the room. 

We shot the scene in this location because this location allowed us to use different shot types in our short film. This location was used for one of our protagonists when he is on his way to the job interview and this shows the different paths use to go to the job interview. 

This is the other path taken by our other protagonist. We selected this location because this shows the difference between path selections, how one takes a long journey to the job interview and the other takes a quick easy way to the job interview. This location was a little harder to shoot because we didn't want to use another high angle shot so we had to be more creative on the shot types we used.  

This is a very important location for our short film because this is where both protagonist come past. This is an iconic place in in our short film.

This is just outside where the interview is taking place. Most of the shots taken for this scene is taken from the inside of the room with the camera pointing to the door. This was hard place to film because of the lack of space we had to place the camera.  

This is also a very important location for our short film as this is the second time the characters meet. This was also a very hard place to film because of the lack of space. It was hard to place the camera and this limited us non just mid shots and close ups. 

This is where the last scene took place. In this location we had more creative freedom as we had more space to place the camera and use different shots in the film. this is the very last location we used and really simple to film in as the scene was really short. 

STORY BOARD

This is our story board that we have made for our short film. This is very important because it gives us a idea of what we have to shoot and what scenes we have to do so that our story and shooting schedule is easy to follow. When shooting every scene this story board made it easy for us, on set to shoot.  This story board gave us an idea and a focus point on what we have to do. 

MOOD BOARD

This is our mood board for our film. Mood boards can be really helpful when creating a short film or even coming up with an idea for a short film or even a feature length film. Mood boards helps the director stay on track and helps with the development of the characters. Mood board tells the director what to focus on and what the characters objective really is. Our short film is all about competing for a job, this mood board helped both the director and the actors stay on track about what emotions that there characters had to display. This mood board told the actors that the main objective was that they were not only competing for a job but also a career. 

Shots taken of the filming 

       

Editing the short film on two mac computers. One computer was used to view the clips and the other for editing. This allowed us to save time and get more films done and improve on the final draft. 

This is the first scene with the main Actors. This scene was slightly hard to film because of the fact of the positioning that had to take place so we could get both actors on the mirror reflection.

First attempt at our short film. 

This is the first draft of our short film. This draft is our first attempt of making a short film and had some shots that worked and other in my opinion that didn't work. In making this short film we tried different shot types to se which worked best in our short film. After composing and finishing the editing for this short film we had people comment on our short film to see what worked well for us and what didn't work well. we had some really helpful comments which will help us construct our second draft and make it better.

This is one of the editing decisions that we have implemented in our short film. We implemented this editing decision because the location we was filming at was really small so having the camera shooting from both sides and editing it together made it seem different and fresh. So having the the camera cut from one side of the room to the other made it seem different and kept the audience entertained. 

Audience feedback

This is the feedback that we gathered about our first attempt at a short and we gathered this information because as this is our first attempt we don't know what we did wrong or what we did right. With the information we gathered we now know where we have to improve and what we should do to help make a better film. Having random people comment on our short film means that the information that comes to us is not from the group and that can have helpful criticism ti make our film better.

Jamal: Yeah

Interviewer: Thank you for attending today’s interview, I greatly appreciate it. Now to start off what qualities do you have for this job?

Jamal: I use to work in a banking firm and I have the knowledge and expertise to do well in this job. I am well known and pleasant to be around...

Paulo: Well I think I am more pleasant right now.

Jamal: You what mate?

Paulo: You heard me. Anyways, So I have worked in many well-known big establishments.  That’s all you need to know.

Interviewer: Gentlemen please calm down. Now why should I choose you?

Paulo: I believe in your company and there is a gap and I believe I can fill it and make the company grow.

Jamal: There is no I in team, therefore I will work well within the company alongside other member to make the company grow huge.

*Big Argument*

Interviewer: I’m sorry guys you came this far but I have to be honest with you. I have already chosen someone much better then you two put together.

Paulo: What?!

Jamal: Are you crazy?!

This is the first script that we have and it is a really basic script. This script is really easy to remember and easy for the actor to act out. 

This is the shot types we used in the short films to date. In the newer version of the films we may be using more shot types. this is what we have and we will be looking to improve on the number of shots we have. The reason we want more shot types is because it makes the film more exciting because they wont be looking at the same shot over and over again. Having more shot gives it a sense of freshness.

Second attempt 

This is our second short film attempt. On our first attempt we received some feedback to our short film and we tried to implement the feedback we received into our newer version. This version of the film we had to use a different actor to replace the actor we first have because he wasn't available to film. this made it a little harder to shot as he wasn't familiar with the script and the film.

At our first attempt we notice that we didn't have many different shot types at this scene and encountered that this is scene, on the first film it was very boring and dull so having more close ups and a numerous amounts of different shot types, would spice this scene up.

This sis the second script we used for our short film. the reason we changed the script was because we felt like the first one was too simple and we change the script to a more advanced script. 

 Mid term vlog 

     

This is our mid term vlog shows what our short film will be about and what we want to show and project on the short film for example we want the audience to capture the different attitudes and how slowly both protagonists feelings change when they find out that they are no longer competing with each other. This short film is all about fighting for the one final spot. 

Some things we mention in this vlog will change in the final product for example characters names ect.

Final short film

This is the final short film that we have produced. This is a bigger improvement to the other short films that we have created. This version has some elements of the other short films but with the improvements that has been asked for from the audience that has been watching our work from the beginning and also newer viewers. We added more to the end because it was a big feature asked from our viewers.

We received some great feedback as most or even maybe all the feedback we gathered was positive feedback.
